Lake Oconee Area Builders Association

The Lake Oconee Area Builders Association, a local trade organization, is dedicated to the betterment of the local construction industry and works to serve our members, consumers and the community through education and public service.

Who ever is in charge of the weather please make it stop raining. I believe the drought is over so let’s get back to the beautiful weather we are famous for at Lake Oconee Georgia. Our January Membership meeting held at the Harbor Club Carriage House featured our new members who joined in our very successful membership drive in October 2009. There were 112 in attendance to visit with theses new members in attendance. Our next Monthly Membership meeting will be February 2, 2010 sponsored by Lights of Oconee and Farmers & Merchants Bank. Education remains one of the important reasons for membership in our Association and the up coming classes Level 1-A Certification January 28^th and CPR March 19^th are two excellent examples. I know Fran Faxson is planning future classes for both associates and builders. Please keep your calendars open for the return of the summer kick off family picnic. If all goes well we plan to have a fishing tournament in conjunction with the picnic so we can cheer on the weighing in and announcement of the winners. Our Home Show March 19^th & 20^th is going well but we do have a few sponsor openings and booths available so please contact the office to reserve your booth today before it is too late. Again this year we will have the Builder of the Year awards presented during the Home Show. Remember the deadline for your entry in the Builder of the Year is February 1, 2010. I would like to thank all those who help make this association one of the best in the state. CPR at the Home Show

Builder License Renewal Period Coming Soon

At the Feb. 2 meeting of the Reisential and General Contractors Licensing Board, the executive director announced her office is planning to send out license renewal notices in early March.

If licensees have provided an e-mail address to the board, they will receive a reminder. If tere is no e-mail address, a postcard will be sent to the address on file at the secretary of state's office. However, the executive director cautioned that licenses must be renewed by the expiration date, regardless of whether notice is actually received from the licensing board.

The board has set fees for June 30 renewals as follows:

Renewal Fee - $100

Late Renewal Fee - $200 (July 1 to December 31, 2010)

According to the board's Web site, renewals will be processed online. If you do not have access for online processing, you must contact the board office at 478-207-2440 to request a paper renewal form.
